We had arranged to meet at a local restaurant. I arrived first and soon saw Jayne enter the room. After a hug, and some brief conversation with her, I spotted Keith when he came in the room.
The look on his face!
The three of us sat there over dinner for about three hours, reminiscing about old times and loving up on each other. It was an extraordinarily delightful experience.
The look on His face...
I'm not much of an artist, but I can draw a representation of a "face" by drawing a simple circle, putting two short lines inside the top portion, representing eyes; a dot in the middle, representing a nose; and a shaped line in the bottom portion representing a mouth.
Are you done? Great.
How's it look?
What kind of face is it? Fill in the blanks: It's a ______________ face. I feel like He ____________________________.
The drawing exercise itself is an aid to the process. Drawing engages your brain in different ways. If you want to WAKE UP your spiritual life, you must engage your brain. Analyzing your thoughts and formulating them into a drawing that you put down on paper is a left brain activity. In just a bit we'll do an exercise with your drawing that will engage the right side of your brain. But, before we do that, let's think about our first drawing for a moment.
Yes. YOU put a smile on His face.
That's what the Big Guy is up to. He's smiling over you. He wants you to receive His smile, to enjoy His embrace. To return the embrace, and to smile back at Him. Just like Keith and I did.
Engaging your brain...the right side too
Now, to engage the right side of your brain, in the quadrant on the other side of the paper, carefully draw an EXACT replica (as exact as possible) of your smiley face. Take your time. Be careful. When done, continue reading.
Good job. So, if you think about the experience of making the copy, you found yourself looking back and forth from the copy to the original, from the original to the copy, etc. Depending on how careful you were when you made your replica, you may have even found yourself lost in the exercise as your right brain took over.
You may also have found yourself in the "back" of your mind mulling over the whole "face of God" thing.
OK. Your done for now. I'm hopeful that you found this simple exercise engaging and that it will serve as a prompt for you along your journey in connecting more deeply with the Big Guy.
